Thyroglobulin (MRQ-41)

Thyroglobulin is the glycoprotein precursor of the iodinated thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Thyroglobulin is obtained from the thyroid gland and exhibits the general properties of the globulins. The human thyroglobulin (hTG) is a high molecular weight glycoprotein (605 kDa) found in the thyroid follicular cells. This antibody is useful in identification of thyroid carcinoma of the papillary and follicular types. Anti-Thyroglobulin, combined with TTF1 are demonstrable by immunohistochemistry assay in the majority of thyroid neoplasms. A panel of antibodies for Thyroglobulin, TTF1, CK-7, CK19, and CK20 is useful when thyroid is the possible primary site of a metastatic tumor.
